Overcoming overwhelmed

Last week we were feeling overwhelmed. There is more on our plate than we’ve ever had. I returned to a few nugget’s I had documented from wise people around me. Here’s three quick insights on what to do when you’re overwhelmed.

  1. Don’t play the hero.

Instead, choose collaboration. People want to help. Moreover, they’d love to be seen. Talk about the mission and vision, look for people who align values, and invite them in.

2. Create a rhythm of work and rest.

Build a schedule that imagines endurance long-term. That rhythm should include rest. Rest is not the same thing as sleep, nor the same thing as vacation. Exhaustion and fatigue are different

3. Name what is overwhelming you.

Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do to your fear is name it. Name what’s overwhelming you, then take one step.
