Why what you tried didn’t work

There are three (and only three) reasons things don’t work.

Three reasons plans fail

You had the wrong plan.

You had a plan, but didn’t do it.

You had a plan, but executed it poorly.

So…

Did you execute your plan? If you did, you either did it poorly or had the wrong one.

Did you execute it poorly? Try again. This time, make the accountability tighter (ask for updates more often). Consider pausing something else for the meantime to make it happen.

Did you have the wrong plan? Congratulations. Executing the wrong plan is better than sitting on your hands. Celebrate that you did something, you became more disciplined, and created a culture of action.

Now, go rework you plan and try again.
